OCMC News - Help New Orthodox Communities Around the World Grow and Thrive!

by Alex Goodwin (Posted 7/25/2014)

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Nestled in the lush green hills of Guatemala, thousands of Mayan people celebrated Pascha as Orthodox Christians for the first time this year. Most of the priests had never celebrated the Holy Week and Pascha services, and the choirs had never before sung the hymns. They, however, were not alone. They were guided and helped by Orthodox missionaries from the United States that you sent through the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC). It is these new communities that you can continue to serve with a gift to the Mission Center as the new Church year begins!

Each year you ensure the spread of the Orthodox Faith and minister to the needs of your brothers and sisters in Christ abroad by supporting, and participating in, the ministries of the OCMC. Along with the Mayans of Guatemala, hundreds of the Turkana people of northern Kenya are being baptized into the Church each year. The youth of Albania are being reintroduced to the faith that had been part of their culture for nearly 2,000 years, and the Church in Uganda is striving to become self-reliant.

As a supporter of Orthodox missions, you know how vital this work is and the role it plays in welcoming others into the Body of Christ. Please help grow these efforts with a gift of $75, $100, or more to the OCMC. Your contribution will be used for:

  • Training and sending more missionaries and mission teams that will assist the growing Church and witness to the Faith.
  • Underwriting additional projects like youth camps, medical outreach, and church construction.
  • Supporting and providing theological education and increasing numbers of Orthodox clergy that will evangelize people around the world.

Thank you in advance for your contribution and for your continued prayers in support of Orthodox missions. You are helping to continue a ministry established by the apostles themselves. The aim of this ministry was nothing less than making disciples of all nations.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Martin Ritsi
Executive Director

P.S. Remember, everyone touched by the Gospel through your support can then share it with those around them!

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
