OCMC News - Share the Gift of Faith in Christ This Nativity Season
Help share the Orthodox faith with a gift to the OCMC this Nativity season. In places like Guatemala your prayerful support is helping to welcome thousands into the Body of Christ!

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

The church was filled to overflowing. When it came time for Holy Communion, the line seemed endless! Hundreds of people kept coming forward.

This is how Fr. John Chakos, OCMC Missionary to Guatemala, describes one beautiful morning he spent in the village of Aguacate. He and the local priest, Fr. Evangelos, refilled the chalices repeatedly so that all could partake. But the most moving experience was yet to come…

Fr. John brought a short-term mission team from OCMC with him to Aguacate that day. When the Divine Liturgy finished, the team had a special gift for everyone. They had brought small paper icons of Jesus Christ for all the villagers. While droves of people had come forward for Holy Communion, even more came forward to receive this humble gift. The team was moved to tears to see hundreds of young children tightly clutching their new icons. For nearly all of the people, this was their very first icon!

Jesus Christ’s coming into the world is as real today to the village of Aguacate as it was 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem. Thousands of people in the greater region of northwestern Guatemala have embraced Orthodoxy over the past 3 years! Christ continues to dwell among us while we bear witness to Him in Guatemala and all over the world.

For many people around the world, our Lord’s Nativity will have new meaning this year now that they have received Christ! As we prepare to celebrate the Nativity, we think of so many more people who need to hear this lifesaving message. With a gift to OCMC, you will share Christ’s message with others this season. In Guatemala, your gift will help establish a seminary to train priests to serve the growing flocks. Your support will also assist a program to translate service texts into the numerous local languages, since most people in this region speak little or no Spanish. Your gift of $25, $50, $100, or a recurring monthly gift to OCMC will ensure that more and more hearts are reached with the Gospel in Guatemala and around the world. Thank you for your support, and we pray that you have a blessed Nativity!

In Christ,

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
