OCMC News - HCHC Hosts Jesse Brandow for Missions Week
Jesse Brandow, missionary to Guatemala, chats with students at the Hellenic College Holy Cross cafeteria.

From October 7-11, the Missions Institute of Orthodox Christianity, at Hellenic College Holy Cross, hosted its annual Missions Week!

Missions Week is always an exciting time at the seminary. Throughout the week, they change things up to highlight the central role that missionary work plays in the Orthodox Christian faith. Different languages are used for every service of the week!

OCMC Missionary to Guatemala, Jesse Brandow, was the keynote speaker for this year's Missions Week. Throughout the week, he spoke during classes and after the services in the chapel, sharing his work and experiences with the students. His keynote address, entitled “Orthodox Christianity in Guatemala”, was on Thursday evening. The room was packed! Both students and other interested attendees from the area filled in to learn about Jesse’s experiences on the mission field, and the growing Orthodox Church in Guatemala.

Over the course of Missions Week, we were pleased to learn that among the students, there is a great deal of interest in various types of missionary service. As always, they were looking forward to participating in our short-term team offerings. They were especially excited, however, to learn about our new volunteer and internship positions, which allow them to spend anything from a summer break to a full gap year in the mission field! If you haven’t heard about these positions but are interested, you can click here for more information.

In the end, it was another successful and fruitful Missions Week. Thanks to the HCHC Missions Institute, awareness of our Orthodox missionary vocation was spread, and hopefully, will lead to us sending out a few new missionaries in the near future!

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
