OCMC News - This Lent You have the Opportunity to Give...The Opportunity to Transform Lives Through Orthodox Missions
Throughout Holy Week, please pray for the work of Orthodox missions and for the millions of people around the world who have yet to be reached with the Gospel. Consider a gift in support of this vital work so that the lives of more people can be transformed by the love of Christ.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As a priest in the mission field, I have been blessed to perform over 1,000 baptisms. I have held the hand of an old man and cradled the head of an infant as they immerged from the baptismal waters, born anew in Christ. Is there anything more beautiful than knowing that this journey to rebirth has unfolded billions of times over the centuries?

By the time this letter reaches you, we will be preparing for Holy Week. Just imagine how the apostles felt on the day Christ entered Jerusalem and people welcomed Him, laying palms at His feet. Imagine the sheer joy that they felt, knowing that others were so warmly receiving the man they knew to be Christ! Now, imagine the utter heartbreak they felt a few days later, knowing that their hope – the savior of all mankind - had been hung from a cross. What happened next, however, is what strikes me so deeply.

Christ, risen from the dead, affirms His divinity to the apostles and reveals to them that their real work has just begun! In spite of being rejected, Christ instructs the apostles to share the salvation made possible through Him to the entire world!

I am writing to you today, during Great and Holy Lent, because the work that was entrusted to the apostles is now our work to continue. There are still so many people who have yet to be reached, and they can only be reached through your prayers and support.

Today, we can communicate with thousands of people around the globe with the click of a button. This was not the case when the apostles were commanded to make disciples of all nations. What incredible Faith Christ’s earliest followers must have had…what incredible determination to do God’s will. Christ and His Church need this same Faith and determination from you, as there are still more than a billion people who need to be reached with the message of the Gospel.

Yes, the task at hand is still daunting, but like the apostles we must answer Christ’s command. From my own experience, I can tell you that the reward for this dedication can be seen in the eyes of those newly received into the Faith through Holy Baptism!

Will you, during Holy Week, and then again during Bright Week, make an offering in support of Orthodox Christian missions? Like the apostles endured and continued, will you endure and continue with the Church in this season? Will you, through your double gift to OCMC, help to reach more people with Orthodox Christian Faith?

Would you prayerfully consider gifts of $50, $75, or even $100 during Holy Week and Bright Week this year?

It is vital that we do our part to fulfill Christ’s final command. There are so many people in need of His love and so many ways that the world could be made better through the Truth of His teachings. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support of this ministry of the Church.

You, your friends and family, and your community will be in our prayers for the remainder of the Lenten journey. Please pray for us as well so that the joy we will know on Pascha can be known by more people all over the world!

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Martin Ritsi
Executive Director

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
