OCMC News - OCMC Missionary Jesse Brandow Departs for Guatemala!
Please pray for, and support, OCMC Missionary Jesse Brandow as he begins his term of service in Guatemala!

This week, OCMC’s newest missionary, Jesse Brandow, begins his term of service in Guatemala. From his home in Nueva Concepcion, Jesse will begin an intensive language and culture learning process. He will spend a great deal of time with Fr. Mihail as he visits the many new communities in the country. Jesse is looking forward to teaching as he is able to, while documenting the continued growth of the Church and sharing the journeys of the Mayan people in the Faith through the website www.mayanorthodoxy.com.

Jesse first fell in love with Latin America in high school, where he befriended students from Mexico who had immigrated to Michigan. Through these friendships, Jesse felt the call to attend seminary and do ministry in the Spanish language. He attended Thomas More College in New Hampshire, and in 2009 he briefly traveled to Guatemala as a short-term missionary through OCMC.

After college, Jesse attended seminary, studying at both St. Vladimir's Seminary and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. In 2012, he returned to Guatemala—this time for a full summer—where he traveled with several indigenous Orthodox priests along treacherous mountain roads to minister in the Mayan villages. After finishing seminary, Jesse worked as a lay hospital chaplain in Reading, Pennsylvania, where he used his knowledge of Spanish among a majority-Hispanic population.

Feeling the call to long-term service, Jesse applied to become an OCMC missionary. After months of training and support-team-building, Jesse is now finally answering this call to serve the Mayan people with whom he already feels a deep connection. Please continue to pray for and support Jesse as he shares the light of Orthodoxy with the people of Guatemala.

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
