Metropolitan ALEXANDROS of Nigeria Reposes in the Lord

His Eminence ALEXANDROS, Metropolitan of Nigeria, reposed in the Lord at the end of June at age 63 after an extended illness. In 1997, His Eminence was appointed the first bishop of the Diocese of Nigeria after it was established by the Holy Patriarchal Synod. By 2004, the diocese had expanded to become an Archdiocese and His Grace was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan with jurisdiction over the countries of Benin, Nigeria, Niger, and Togo.

Metropolitan ALEXANDROS was a great partner in missions work and vital to the growth of the Orthodox Church throughout the Archdiocese of Nigeria and elsewhere in Africa. He was also a great advocate for OCMC’s SAMP program, which supports clergy,” said Executive Director Fr. Martin Ritsi.

Prior to his time in Nigeria, His Eminence served in South Africa and as Director of the Patriarchal Office in Alexandria.

May his memory be eternal!
