OCMC News - 2010 Clergy Packet Cover Letter

by Kenneth D. Kidd (Posted 11/30/2009)

December 2009

“The harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38

Dear Reverend Clergy,

The Sunday preceding Great and Holy Lent, February 14, 2010 has been designated as Mission Sunday by the Hierarchs of SCOBA. This Sunday provides a wonderful opportunity to engage your parish in the life-giving ministries of international Orthodox missions supported through the Orthodox Christian Mission Center. I pray that you will use this opportunity to guide the faithful of your parish as they consider their personal response to Christ’s Great Commission to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19).

The OCMC remains a resource as you grow the missions ministries of your parish. Available again this year for Mission Sunday are Mission Coin Boxes and Sunday School Lesson Plans. These activities annually raise awareness of, and support for, the mission witness of the Church around the world. Please utilize the enclosed form, or contact us directly at coinbox@ocmc.org, to order your Mission Sunday Coin Boxes and Lesson Plans. Order them by Wednesday, January 22nd to ensure delivery before February 14th!

Likewise, you will receive an encyclical letter from SCOBA to be shared with your community regarding the ministries of OCMC. Please also prayerfully consider taking a collection for this vital work of the Church on Mission Sunday. Any gift from your community would be greatly appreciated, especially as the Church's mission efforts continue to feel the strain of a struggling economy. Your community's prayerful offering can be sent to: OCMC, 220 Mason Manatee Way, St. Augustine, FL, 32086.

As Great and Holy Lent approaches, let us re-commit to pray for those who have yet to hear the Gospel. Let us, as God’s children, shine brightly with the light of Christ before others. I look forward to hearing from you when you order coin boxes and lesson plans and to working with the faithful of your parish for many years to come!

In Christ’s service,

Kenneth D. Kidd
Annual Gifts Officer

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
