OCMC News - It's Not Too Late! Support Orthodox Missions this Lenten Season!

by Orthodox Christian Mission Center (Posted 4/14/2016)

OCMC News - It
Christ has called us! The Patriarch has asked us! Please support Orthodox missions this Lent and help the Church care for and minister to people around the world!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It’s Lent! Again!

Lent can be hard. Especially the fast.

But you know as well as I do, Lent is one of the greatest gifts God has given us Christians. Just as spring is a time when nature “wakes up,” Lent is when we “wake up” spiritually. And find ourselves truly ready to receive the miracle of Pascha.

I’ve enclosed a Quick Guide to Lent. It’s no substitute for what your priest has to offer as you move through the season. But it gives you a few things to think about this Lenten season. I hope you find it helpful.

As you know, our Orthodox Lent is not just about fasting. Lent is also a time of prayer, confession, and giving.

It’s that last one I want to point out. Giving can really change your life. It gives you a sense of joy and peace. It puts you in control of your finances in a way no “financial guru” ever could.

I hope you’ll think about giving to support our Orthodox missions through OCMC this Lent.

Your giving will change you. But it will also change the world. And that really matters. Here’s why:

A few weeks ago, I had the honor of meeting the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew of Constantinople.

After I reported our mission work around the world, he fixed his eyes on me and said something that still burns in my heart: “Father Martin, I want you to see what more you can do for the many struggling Orthodox missions around the world.

Now when the Patriarch speaks, you listen! Because he’s right. We need to do more!

Churches all over Orthodox lands are still rebuilding after decades of Communist persecution. So many people were killed, buildings destroyed. So much knowledge lost! They need our help.

There are places where the seed of Orthodoxy has just been planted. Just starting to grow. They lack priests and other leaders. They need help with the bare-bones basics of sustaining Orthodox worship. They need our help too.

  • Your gift will assist priests and other missionaries in places that so desperately need God’s presence.
  • Your generosity will support growing mission churches when they need help most.
  • You’ll help them become strong and self-sufficient.

Your gift will strengthen and spread our Holy Church and bring in more people. You know how deep and wide our Church can grow. Now is the time to help. Give to support this work! Pray for our Church and pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world!

Please send your Lenten gift today.

Wishing You a Wonderful Lent,

Fr. Martin Ritsi
Executive Director

P.S. When you give, do so with a prayer that God will put every penny to the best use for His plans!

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
