OCMC News - A Simple Act of Kindness: Orthodox Missions in Kenya
A simple act of kindness care serve as a witness to Christ's love and plant the seeds of the faith in others. This is happening in places like Kenya where a gift to the OCMC can help continue this missionary witness.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

During a recent visit to the Mission Center, His Eminence Makarios, Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Kenya, shared many stories of people who have approached him saying, “You don’t know me, but…” Each time, these words were followed by a story of how their lives or the lives of their family had been transformed by the schooling, medicine, or pastoral care offered by the Church. Moved by this loving kindness, many decided to become Orthodox Christian. Over the years, your gifts have made this witness possible!

Have you ever had the opportunity to utter the words, “You don’t know me, but…” to someone? They may have had an impact on your life with a simple act of kindness that was something small to them, but that meant the world to you. The profound gratitude resting at the heart of these words is felt by thousands in places like Kenya who have been touched by the mission ministries you have made possible. Please continue to have an impact on these lives with a gift to the OCMC during this Lenten season.

In the coming year, two missionaries, two mission teams, and hundreds of Orthodox priests in Kenya will be supported through your donations. These men and women will help build a school, teach the Faith, train clergy, and translate the writings of the Church. They need your support! Their efforts will impact thousands of lives. None of them will know you, but your simple act of kindness will mean the world to them.

In Kenya alone, OCMC will be committing over $400,000 to share the Orthodox Faith in 2015. This Lent, make a gift in support of this vital work with a gift of $50, $75, $100, or more.

Thank you in advance for your prayerful offering! We pray that you have a blessed Lenten journey and that, as you prepare to celebrate Pascha, you will take this opportunity to share the salvation made possible through Christ’s Resurrection with the world.

In Christ,

Fr. Martin Ritsi
Executive Director

PS – The recent global recession has hit the Church in Kenya especially hard. Your support is needed now more than ever!

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
