2020 Albania Outreach Team

Traveling From: 3/20/2020 to 3/29/2020; Team Cost: $2000*

“It was an amazing trip and I loved that it combined both a pilgrimage and service work! It was nice to get a glimpse into what it takes to be a long-term missionary. I would definitely recommend the trip; I have been telling friends about Albania and now they want to go!” – Kyriaki, ’19 Albania Team member

TIRANA, Albania – Work with Albanian youth leaders and OCMC missionaries to host a conference for young adults from throughout Albania. This Team will also participate in activities with the university students in Tirana. Experience the transformation that Orthodoxy brings to the lives of the youth as you share Christ and touch their lives.

The 2020 Albania Mission Team will work with the staff of the Youth Office of the Orthodox Church of Albania to engage and connect with young adults from the greater Tirana area in a diocesan conference. The Team will offer outreach at the University of Tirana to bring an awareness of Christianity and the programs of the Church in Albania. Members will also visit various ministries of the Church and witness the Orthodox Faith as part of this evangelistic outreach of the Church. The Team will be led by OCMC missionaries to Albania Fr. Stephanos and Presb. Alexandria Ritsi.

Help strengthen the Church’s youth ministry programs by contributing to its ongoing growth; to inspire, train, and equip Albanians to evangelize their nation and disciple their people. Team members will share life experiences and fellowship with Albanian young adults while providing a visible witness of the Holy Orthodox Faith.

Albania is a country where 70% of the people come from a Muslim tradition. Albania suffered the most severe religious persecution in the world, where all forms of religion were constitutionally prohibited. Most churches and monasteries had been destroyed; no Church infrastructure existed; and only a few clergy remained. After five centuries of Ottoman occupation and five decades of communist rule, the Church continues to make a remarkable turnaround. Today, under the guidance of Archbishop ANASTASIOS of Tirana, Durres, and All Albania, along with the help of Orthodox missionaries and dedicated Albanian leaders the Church has been resurrected and continues to flourish.

A background in youth ministry and teaching is requested. Applicants should be in good health and comfortable walking and using public transportation around town. Clergy, youth workers, college students and seminarians are encouraged to apply.

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
