2019 Mexico Construction Team

Traveling From: 7/18/2019 to 7/24/2019; Team Cost: $670*

Tijuana, MexicoBuilding A Home for Missions. Enjoy a week of work, witness and fellowship as you learn the importance of sharing the Orthodox Faith and the responsibility of building up the Church in a cross-cultural setting. OCMC is partnering with Project Mexico to build homes while introducing youth and adults to the Orthodox vocation of international missions.

In 2018 the OCMC and Project Mexico came together to offer a week at Project Mexico entitled Building A Home for Missions. Once again, in 2019, this partnership will allow you to experience the work that happens to improve lives in Northern Mexico while learning about Orthodox Missions in a ‘hands on’ setting.

Only minutes south of one of California’s favorite vacation destinations, you will find Tijuana, Mexico, a city not only of considerable size and history, but of significant human poverty and hardship as well. With a population of over 1.3 million residents, it is sobering to learn that nearly half live on less than $200 (USD) per month. Many families face huge challenges when considering housing. Once they have saved enough to pay for the mortgage on their land, they have very little left to construct a secure home. As you drive through the impoverished communities around Tijuana, you will see homes made of old garage doors, wooden pallets, tarps, tires or other materials that were, ironically enough, likely discarded from homes within the United States.

Since 1988, Project Mexico & St. Innocent Orphanage has been building secure, safe and weather-tight homes for impoverished families in northern Mexico. Built strictly by volunteer labor, these homes provide families economic security and hope for a brighter future. Through their service to others, Team Members realize that they have received much more than they had given.

Dates: July 18-24, 2019

Cost: $ 670 (+ travel)

TravelTeam Members will receive an information packet from Project Mexico which describes getting to the Project Mexico location and information regarding rental cars and insurance.

Fund raising – Each Team Member is responsible for the participant and travel costs associated with this Team. Team Members are encouraged to invite others to participate in this effort through prayer and tax-deductible donations.

Share in a journey of faith… Orthodox Mission Team members are challenged to view the world with God's eyes and seek how He wants to use them to fulfill His plans. This cross-cultural experience, combined with outreach, offers participants a life-changing learning experience. This experience is about people, culture and missions. It is also about prayer, for you and others; it is about God, those you serve, and about yourself, as you serve Him.

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
