MEDAN, INDONESIA -- Assist the Orthodox Church in Indonesia with its ongoing mission in Medan, North Sumatera by teaching catechism and the uniqueness of Orthodoxy to benefit individuals in a region where Islam is a majority religion.
The 2017 Indonesia Teaching Team has been invited by His Eminence Metropolitan KONSTANTINOS of Singapore and South Asia to teach the basics of Orthodoxy in theory and ‘praxis’ – as a way of life. Team members will be teaching the Orthodox Faith and spirituality, and evangelism for students at schools operated by the Church; teaching Orthodox theology and English for seminary students at the St. Paul Theological School. The Team will also offer will offer lessons on the faith and celebrate the liturgical life with Indonesian Orthodox faithful as well as have time for fellowship.
Indonesia is a country with over 230 million people, where only six religions are officially recognized: Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Catholicism and Protestantism. Islam’s strength and influence in numbers and power allow it to exert itself on the religious, political and social scenes, taking preferential treatment and limiting the activities of other faiths. Indonesia has a growing and diverse economy. Economic improvement was significantly reduced by economic crises in the last decade; recovery and new growth are still hampered. Endemic corruption exists and the need for economic reform still remains.
Medan is where the first OCMC Mission Team to Indonesia traveled in 2015. OCMC continues to support the strategic mission potential of the Metropolis of Singapore and South Asia and the Orthodox Church in Indonesia which is under the spiritual omophorion of His Eminence Metropolitan KONSTANTINOS of Singapore and South Asia. This Team will provide support and assistance to the Church’s missionary initiatives which began thirty years ago in this nation where Christianity continues to be a minority faith.
Participants should be well-grounded in the basic teachings of the Church, with a sound understanding of the Orthodox Faith, and the ability to teach catechism. English language teachers have also been requested. Apply today to support the work carried out in Indonesia.
