OCMC News - Hoppe Family Awarded the Rose of Saint Nicholas
The Orthodox Christian Mission Center would like to congratulate Nathan Hoppe and his family for being awarded the Silver Rose of Saint Nicholas by the Institute for Ecumenical Studies of the University of Fribourg and the Institute for Eastern Churches.

We want to congratulate OCMC Missionary Nathan Hoppe and his family for being awarded the Silver Rose of Saint Nicholas! They were selected for this beautiful gift by the Institute for Ecumenical Studies of the University of Fribourg and the Institute for Eastern Churches.

The award consists of a pure silver rose containing five blooms from one stem, representing the community of the Hoppe family, together engaged in the mission by the Triune God. The five blooms contain five precious stones: an emerald, a ruby, a sapphire, a golden beryl, and an amethyst. The blooms are filled with aromatic balm, as a sign of the “spreading fragrance of the knowledge of Christ” (2 Corinthians 2:14). And most amazingly, the upper bloom contains particles of the relics of St. Nicholas, bishop of Myra, from the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Fribourg.

The Institute awarded the Hoppe family - Nathan, Gabriela, Tristan, Katherine, and Daniel - with the Silver Rose of St. Nicholas:

  • for their incessant response to the call of Jesus: “Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit”, and for their incessant confidence in Jesus’s word: “And look, I am with you always; yes, to the end of time” (Matthew 28:20);
  • for their participation in the process of resurrection of Church and Society in Albania, proclaiming generously the light of hope for human beings - in a country where Church buildings and hearts have been devastated by a totalitarian regime;
  • for their commemoration of suffering and death, knowing - from Lynette Hoppe and others - about the virtue of giving one’s life, and entrusting the destiny of victims and offenders to the infinite mercy of God;
  • for the mutual trust between them and the Church hierarchy, especially for taking up the inspiring perspectives of Archbishop Anastasios, and for their deep confidence in the prayer of the faithful community;
  • for their missionary work with children and families by which they prepare the next generation of Christians, deeply rooted in faith, hope and love;
  • for their support given to different forms of ecumenical dialogues and exchange, among them new ecumenical networks that contribute to a deeper communion of all Christians in prayer, witness and reflection, including bridges between orthodox and evangelical movements;
  • for their way of combining practical ministry with solid academic formation, contributing in this way to a deeper understanding of our world and to a more competent capacity of acting in the light of faith
Congratulations, Hoppe family, for this wonderful award. We look forward to all your future accomplishments as you continue doing great work in the vineyard of the Lord!

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
