OCMC News - Take Up Your Cross in Support of Orthodox Missions this Ecclesiastical New Year
Teams are being planned for 2019. Your support is needed to help send them into the mission field. As the Church New Year begins, please take up your cross for missions with a gift to the OCMC!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“Participating in an Orthodox Mission Team changed my life,” reflects an OCMC Team Member. “It was my Faith in action. I grew in Christ as I served others.”

This OCMC team member was part of an effort that helped build a church for a new community of Orthodox Christians in a small East African village. You can put your Faith into action by making mission teams like this possible with a gift in support of missions to start the new Church Year.

Orthodox Christianity transcends mere learning. It is a way of life. The Church’s mission is one of action. We the faithful are called to “do” something in response to Christ’s command to make disciples of all nations. As the new Church Year gets underway you can DO something with your Faith, something that will help transform lives. You can support the mission of the Church with a gift to the OCMC.

This month a new Church Year begins, and we celebrate the Feast of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. No symbol better embodies action then the Holy Cross. It was upon the Cross that Christ sacrificed Himself for the salvation of the entire world. It punctuated His earthly ministry, a ministry of action! This ministry, entrusted to the apostles, continues to this day through the OCMC. Please, make a gift to the OCMC today in support of this vital work!

Your prayerful offering of $75, $100, or more makes a huge difference!
With gifts from stewards like you, Orthodox Mission Teams have done the following in 2018:

  • Offered life-saving healthcare for just $57 per person.
  • Trained catechists for $108, who then shared what they learned with thousands.
  • Ministered to youth and children for only $61 per child, engaging them in the life of the Church through camp activities, workshops, and fellowship.

Next year's teams are being planned as I write this letter. You can do even more in the coming year by making a regular commitment to missions through a monthly recurring gift to the Mission Center!

The second chapter of James’s Epistle reminds us, “If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill’, and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.”

Our Orthodox Faith is one of action. May we glorify God with every action we take. Thank you for taking up Christ’s Cross and sharing His salvation with your prayerful support of Orthodox Missions.

Have a blessed Ecclesiastical New Year!

In Christ,

Fr. Martin Ritsi
Executive Director

PS – Remember, your gift in support of missions is your Faith in action! It will be an answer to prayer for countless people around the world in need. By making your one-time gift a recurring gift, this impact can be multiplied for years to come!

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
