OCMC News - Long Term OCMC Missionary Alexandria Ritsi to Host Weekly Albanian Radio Show
OCMC Missionary Alexandria Ritsi now hosts a radio show in Albania called Homemaking Missionary covering variety of topics from raising an Orthodox family to the experience of serving as an Orthodox missionary.

Dkn. Alexandria Ritsi, wife of Deacon Stephanos Ritsi, was approached in February by Fr. Gregory, director of the Orthodox Radio in Albania, to host a weekly radio show about Mothering and Orthodoxy.

It is titled "Homemaking Missionary" and began broadcasting at the start of Great Lent.

The goal of the show is for Dkn. Alexandria to share her experiences and advice on raising children in the Orthodox Faith. Each show runs about 20-25 minutes. Alexandria’s koumbara and friend, Deisa, a retired teacher, translates the show into Albanian.

The show airs once on Thursday nights and is retransmitted Friday mornings. Alexandria also posts a transcript of the English version of the show weekly on the Ritsi family’s official Facebook page. The transcript is fashioned like a blog and often includes pictures she has taken herself.

Here is an excerpt from her first show, which was centered on keeping Christ in the home:

"If our children have a strong identity as an Orthodox Christian, from the time they are young, they will learn to love God, Christ, the Church, and the Saints. They will be able to be in the midst of our secular culture and witness, like many young martyr saints have done, and love Christ."

The themes for the show cover a wide variety of topics, including: making Christ the center of your home; Liturgy before the Liturgy (preparing for Liturgy); Baking Prosphora; Children in Church; Raising Orthodox Children, Living Saints; and Orthodox Mothering.

It is hoped that this new show will help Orthodox families in Albania and around the world while providing a glimpse into the life of a modern Orthodox missionary family. The first broadcast was well-received. Dkn. Alexandria explains, “I do research in a few books and listen to podcasts in addition to giving experiences from our lives and raising Moses as an Orthodox child. This past week was the first transmission, and I got great feedback.”

Prayer for Missions

God of truth and love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Hear our prayer for those who do not know You. That they may come to a saving knowledge of the truth, and that Your Name may be praised among all peoples of the world. Sustain, inspire, and enlighten Your servants who bring them the Gospel. Bring fresh vigor to wavering faith; sustain our faith when it is still fragile. Continually renew missionary zeal in ourselves and in the Church, and raise up new missionaries who will follow You to the ends of the world. Make us witnesses to Your goodness full of love, full of strength, and full of faith for Your glory and the salvation of the entire world. Through the prayers of all the missionary saints, Have mercy on us and save us. Amen.
