Resources For Sunday Schools

For years, the OCMC has been teaching the importance of missions to thousands of students across the country. OCMC’s missions focused lesson plans and OCMC Coin Boxes show students that they can become actively involved in missions from within their own community.

The Mission Coin Box Program, accompanied by mission lesson plans, can plant the seeds of mission-minded thought and activity that will bear fruit for years to come. Involving youth in the work of missions is simple:
  • Download mission lesson plans and order Coin boxes from the OCMC. These lessons are prepared at four education levels: K-3rd grade, 4th-8th grade, high school, and adult.
  • Encourage your parish Sunday School Teachers to utilize the lesson plans on Mission Sunday (the first Sunday of Great Lent) or on any Sunday that your parish wishes to focus on missions.
  • Participate in the Mission Coin Box Program by distributing the coin boxes as part of the mission lesson. Encourage students to think and pray about Orthodox missions each day as they share their spare change with mission work abroad.
  • Set a date to collect the filled boxes in advance.
  • Get parents involved – place notices in parish bulletins.
  • Send a colorful note home to parents the week before boxes are to be returned.
  • Celebrate the amount that was collected with the Sunday School students and revisit the stories that were shared in the mission lesson plans, or pull stories from the OCMC magazine and share these with the students.
We offer ourselves here at the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) as a resource as you inspire your students to respond to the call of missions. The Holy Spirit is touching the lives of thousands across our world and filling their hearts with His life-saving message. OCMC missionaries, mission teams, and mission priests are offering themselves to these ministries; we are excited by your participation in these ministries with us!
