iscover Alaska's unique Orthodox heritage by participating in an OCMC building team to Tyonek. Located on Upper Cook Inlet, the Orthodox community was established in 1891 in this Athabascan Indian village. Today, the Church in Alaska is in a period of renewal, working to maintain an Orthodox witness. The Orthodox Christian Mission Center continues to play a role in this renewal by sending Mission Teams to Alaska to offer encouragement, education and support to the communities in this vast diocese.

Team members will continue work on the renovations and repairs to the Saint Nicholas Church. As you assist the local community with construction of the first and second floors, replace the bell tower and roofing to the St. Nicholas Church, you will also have an opportunity to participate in basic catechism while encouraging the community members. Team members will meet in Anchorage, Alaska for orientation and will be housed in local community lodge.

Participant cost includes transportation from Anchorage to Tyonek, Alaska, which will be arranged by OCMC. Team members make round-trip flight arrangements from their home city to Anchorage, Alaska, and are encouraged to raise the additional funds to cover the cost of domestic travel.

Volunteers with a willingness to work hard and a firm grasp of the Orthodox Faith are encouraged to apply! Space is limited to skilled or experienced construction workers. Project dates will vary with participants’ availability.
