What is the Agape Canister Program?
The Agape Canister Program is a philanthropic development program of the Orthodox Christian Mission Center that is dedicated to meeting the needs of children, families, and communities throughout the world. All funds collected by the Agape Canister Program are earmarked for medical care and clinics, water wells, agricultural development, food and clothing, support personnel such as doctors, nurses, and teachers, the construction of schools, and the education of indigenous people in their own communities.
How does the Agape Canister Program Work?
When you sign up to become an Agape Partner, you agree to place hard plastic canisters in your local church and/or near the cash registers of cooperating businesses. These canisters can be placed in restaurants, dry-cleaners, gas stations, mini-markets, or other stores. Then, monthly, you collect the money that others have contributed and send it to the Orthodox Christian Mission Center along with your report form. As an Agape Canister Partner you will receive the Agape Partners’ Newsletter updating you on the progress of Agape Projects around the world made possible by your efforts.
Why should you become an Agape Partner?
Agape is the Greek word for "Christian Love." One of the best ways to answer the Lord’s commandment to love one another is to give of your time and efforts to help those who are less fortunate around the world. This is exactly what Agape Partners do. By giving a few moments of your time each month to gather the money collected in the Agape Canisters which you have placed in local businesses and churches, you are helping to ease the pain of poverty, hunger, and disease. Where does the money go?
Since 1988, the Agape Canister Program has contributed over 1.6 million dollars in the form of grants to aid people in: Albania, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Romania, Chad, Ghana, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Madagascar, Philippines, Alaska, Russia, Slovakia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire, and other places around the world.
How do I get involved?
Become an Agape Partner or give to the Online Agape Canister and make a prayerful commitment to the Agape Canister Program by participating in, and ministering to, the spiritual and physical needs of people throughout the world.
