R
omania is one of Europes poorer nations, yet it is rich in culture and natural resources. Since the revolution in 1989, profound changes have occurred and kept the country in a period of economic and social transition. Today, over 1.85 million Romanians (8.6% of the total population) live in poverty due to these recent changes that have taken place and the previous decades of Communist rule.

While Romania is a traditionally Orthodox country, there are many distractions and challenges that face Romanian youth. The Church in Romania is now faced with the prospect of having to re-evangelize members of a generation whose culture differs radically from that of their parents. Although 85% of the population claims to be Christian, the years under Communisim brought severe persecution, manipulation and governmental control. Legislation of the 1990's that promised religious freedom has left the Church in transition as it struggles to minister to its people. Partnering with the Romanian Church, OCMC Missionaries, Mission Teams, and Agape projects have ministered to both adults and youth in this critical time.
