Teaching – Hueheutenango
Teach a basic understanding of the hymns of the Divine Liturgy and Feast days. Be a part of a unique Teaching Team that will teach about the hymns of the Liturgy – their history and purpose within the Liturgy – to the newly founded Orthodox communities in the highlands of Guatemala.
This Team has been asked to instruct, educate and guide the faithful regarding the history of Orthodox hymnology, specific hymns of the Church, and their place and purpose in the context of worships services. Team members will be based at Saints Peter and Paul Seminary in Hueheutenango. Work with and teach seminarians and catechists. These efforts will assist the catechists who have been engaged in planting Orthodoxy among the indigenous people of Guatemala. The Team will also worship with the students and staff of the seminary.
Over the last two decades, a large number of communities, made up of native Mayans began a spiritual journey that has recently brought them to the Orthodox Church. Catechists travel every two months for a catechist seminar to learn more about the Orthodox Church. Work with OCMC missionaries in the western highlands of Guatemala and visit Mayan villages where newly emerging Orthodox communities have formed to encourage and witness the faith.
This Team will share the love of Christ with Guatemalans and express love and friendship by showing them that they are God's beautiful and unique creation. Team members will also offer great hope and encouragement to the Church in Guatemala. Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply, but not required.
Share the Faith with the newly established Orthodox communities of Guatemala.
