Youth - San Miguel del Lago
Offer a youth camp program at the new Hogar Rafael Ayau Orphanage and assist in the daily activities in San Miguel del Lago. This unique summer camp program, led by Fr. Philip LeMasters, will carry out service projects on the grounds and have time with the children, making arts and crafts, playing games and cooking.
Team members will assist with the summer activities at the Hogar Rafael Ayau orphanage: cooking, gardening, helping with the farm, preparing afternoon activities, clearing trails in the forest, and worship. There will be a special focus on the ecology of the land around the new facility. Every day the Team will attend Matins and Vespers with the children and Divine Liturgy as scheduled.
The Hogar Rafael Ayau was founded in 1857 as the first home of orphans in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Since 1996, this orphanage located in downtown Guatemala City, has been under the care of the nuns of the Monasterio Ortodoxo Lavra Mambré. The summer of 2013 brought big changes for the Hogar as they relocated from their home of 17 years to the brand new site of San Miguel del Lago. Today, the Hogar Rafael Ayau is the only Orthodox orphanage in Guatemala that welcomes orphans or lost, abandoned and battered children whose ages range from newly born infants to early teens.
The Church in Guatemala is in a period of growth. Team members will offer great hope and encouragement to the Church in Guatemala. This Team will also share the love of Christ with Guatemalans and express love and friendship by showing them that they are God's beautiful and unique creation, while working to help the transition to San Miguel de Lago.
Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply, but not required. Mission Team members should be exemplary role models for the children.
Share the love of Christ with the children of Guatemala.
