Teaching – Regional
Offer workshops on Christian stewardship to both clergy and laity in four regions of Uganda. The Church in Uganda is embracing a process of self-sustainability while engaged in missions. This Biblical stewardship program will be centered on Orthodox Christian beliefs and the calling to give of time, talent and treasure to care for others and the Church.
The 2013 Uganda Teaching Team will offer presentations on topics that introduce stewardship, self sufficiency, and help guide and lead the communities towards self reliance. The Team will begin their ministry at the Orthodox Mission Center in Kampala, with clergy and lay leaders that live and work near the Metropolis center. They will then travel to three other communities where other clergy and lay leaders of all the Deaneries will be invited to attend 2-day seminars.
Under the leadership of His Eminence JONAH of Kampala and all Uganda, the Church continues to mature and meet the growing needs of her people. With vision towards a healthy future, the Church has asked that this Team offer presentations on these topics that will help guide and lead the communities forward towards self reliance. This project is part of a long term goal to introduce stewardship and self sufficiency to the faithful.
While the economy in Uganda has improved over the last decade, many people who live in rural areas are still reliant on farming and often do not have regular work that pays a salary. Additionally, the concepts of stewardship and self reliance within the Church have not been fully introduced.
The concept of Harambee, which literally means “all pull together” in Swahili, has permeated East Africa as a newer tradition of community self-help. This concept ranges from well-planned to informal events that build and maintain communities. In the spirit of ‘harambee’, the 2013 Team to Uganda will be bringing a Biblical based program that the Church of Uganda can call the faithful to “all pull together”. Advocates of Christian stewardship are invited to teach in Uganda.
Introduce and teach Christian stewardship to the leaders of the Church in Uganda.
