Evangelism – Turkana
Share the Faith in northern Kenya where some of the least evangelized people live. Help plant the seeds of Christianity to those who have begun to respond to the Gospel in the Turkana tribe. Evangelism and teaching will take place in rural areas outside of Lodwar, where Christianity is being preached.
In northern Kenya, the 2013 Kenya Evangelism Team has been invited by Archbishop MAKARIOS of Kenya to help three dedicated Orthodox clergy of the Turkana region nurture and expand the Church in thirteen communities among the Turkana people. This Team will be led by OCMC Executive Director, Rev. Martin Ritsi, and will travel through the Turkana tribal region of Kenya. Team members will visit the Makarios III Patriarchal Seminary in Nairobi before traveling to Lodwar in the north. Through use of Bible skits, stories and the use of the Jesus Film (in the Turkana language), Team members will present the Good News of Christ’s love for His people.
About 9% of Kenya’s population belongs to peoples only marginally impacted by the Gospel. Lodwar, the largest town in northwestern Kenya with a population of 17,000, is the capital of the Turkana District. The Turkana, who live in this remote region, are a Nilotic people numbering less than half a million people, are noted for raising camels and weaving baskets. In their oral traditions, they designate themselves the people of the grey bull. The Turkana people are one of the least evangelized people groups on the continent. Share the Gospel and teach the faith in rural areas outside of Lodwar. Continue to build a relationship with the Kenyans of Lodwar and share your Faith by providing outreach to the Turkana tribe.
Assist the Church with its ongoing mission outreach to witness and make disciples by teaching and evangelizing to those who have begun to respond to the Gospel in the Turkana tribe. Participants must be in good physical condition, willing to sleep in tents, hike through the desert and teach the Faith.
Bring the Good News of salvation to villages in the desert region of Turkana.
