Mrs. Elizabeth Slanta
Mrs. Slanta served as a Senior Transportation Specialist with the Department of Defense (DOD) for 33 years. Her major responsibilities included writing and editing contract requirements for major specifications for DOD contracts; she retired from the DOD in 2011. Since then, she writes for church publications, volunteers with her church, Habitat for Humanity and church-sponsored mission trips, food assistance organizations, and assists children in reading literacy. She is a board member of the Orthodox Christian Mission Center, an international Orthodox Christian mission-sending organization.
She is a National Weather Service Weather Spotter, on the Advisory Council of the Salvation Army Northern Virginia Rehabilitation Center, representative to the Arlington Civic Federation and a choir member.
Mrs. Slanta began her transportation career as an intern with the Secretary of the Army Transportation Career Program in 1979; she was then assigned to the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) and the Naval Supply Systems Command; her last assignment was with the Defense Logistics Agency. She holds a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from James Madison University, completed graduate work through the Florida Institute of Technology, and holds a Supply Chain Management Certificate from Penn State University College of Business Administration.
She is a member of both St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington, DC and SS Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church Potomac, MD.
